“Without a Trace” is a favorite t.v. show of mine. An episode last week dived into the world of adoption. We could see it coming. All throughout the show, we were guessing as to the relationship between a young woman being helped by an older woman. Even my husband can spy an adoption tale about to pop up.
I figured it out well before they told us that the woman was helping her daughter that she had relinquished to adoption. The young woman needed lots of help as she was badly addicted to drugs. The birth mother in the story was a…….doctor. Amazing, huh? Of course, I enjoyed that aspect of the story.
However, this story had more twist and turns than a racetrack. The young woman was scamming the birth mother pretending to be her daughter. How icky is that?
One scene that got my dander up was a flashback of the birth mother – she was 14 or so when her daughter was born. She had gone back to the agency weeks after her daughter was born and wanted to see her baby. The agency worker nicely explained that her baby was with its family now. More discussion and finally she asks – “Can’t I at least write her a letter?”
“Sure” they said, so she writes a letter to “Dear Baby.” The agency worker then says after she left the agency that of course they couldn’t give it to her. Nice, huh? The show was pretty interesting, and except for that one scene that got to me, it wasn’t horrible like many adoption episodes are these days.
HOWEVER, at the very end of the show, the pretty blonde FBI agent in the show was talking to her psychiatrist and visibly upset. They talk about how this case had gotten to her and she says it is different. When asked why it is different, she looks anguished and about to blurt something out. Then she says that she doesn’t know and fade-out – the show ends. If I were a betting person, I would say she’s about to come out as a birth mother! I will be watching next week.

I was hoping also. I watched that episode and when it got to that last scene I thought maybe they will say something. Nope. I didn’t see anything last night either.
My husband and I watch that show all the time and that was a re-run. Maybe the re-run timing is so Sam (the blond agent) can come out about this next week. They often portray her as having a secret past…
I saw that one too… I think that’s actually an older one. But that is not the first time Sam has had that look when it comes to adoption issues on the show. Hopefully, at some point they will have her open up and explain.
Hmmm, thanks to everyone for the explanations. I watched last night too and no mention of it. If I miss her “coming out”, someone let me know!
