Oh, sweet glorious Autumn! You have arrived! After starting the week off in the nineties, we’re now experiencing more fall-like weather. I’m wearing corduroy pants! And sweaters! And slippers around the house! I feel like making hot chocolate and bundling in warm blankets. I couldn’t be more content.
This week was busy as ever, both in our house and on the blog. I took some time to talk about how birth parents should choose words and how they might be perceived, either by your child’s adoptive parents or your child. I think it’s vastly important for us to consider the weight of our words while simultaneously feeling the freedom to discuss, openly, what we are feeling. It’s sometimes hard to find that place! I also hit on some emotions this week. I talked about birth parent jealousy, which was somewhat freeing for me to confess. I also questioned birth parents about their children and something called “unconditional love.”
I reviewed a book this week, one that I particularly enjoyed. For those who don’t know, it’s also being made into a movie. I’m not usually one to watch (or like) movies made from books but I really think I’ll be catching this one when it hits theaters. Mostly because I want to see how Bette Midler is going to handle this particular birth mother character. Should prove to be interesting, no doubt! (Speaking of movies and thus things Hollywood, I also asked if we could judge celebrities more harshly than we currently do.)
For my normal weekly memes, I talked about the love I have for the parenting advice I receive from Munchkin’s Mom (and Dad). I also gave an idea about how to incorporate Halloween costume sharing into a family tradition.
Lastly, I talked about the conference that I’m speaking at… today. Yes, if you must know, my nerves are still all riled up concerning my birth mother status and my current pregnant status. (Also, thanks to an impatient little buddy, one episode of legitimate preterm labor and the contractions I had on Thursday night, I’m also nervous that I’m just going to spontaneously bust into labor while speaking. Now that’s fun! Thankfully, my Husband, the paramedic, will be in the audience.) I also gave some more information on the conference which goes through tomorrow for those who are interested. I’m speaking at 1:30 (EDT) today so think some good thoughts for me. By the time you’re likely to read this, I’ll either be: A) on the road, B) eating lunch at my Husband’s favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh, C) getting lost on the Pitt campus, D) speaking, E) freaking out or F) any one of the above combined with option E.
But again, the weather is perfect this weekend and I’m excited to speak with the ladies on my panel. I’m also excited to spend a day back in my hometown and visit with my family back on The Farm. All in all? Good weekend!
I hope you have an equally great time this weekend!

Just curious, what was “B?”
Lisa
B is apparently the smiley face that got edited to a smiley face because of the letter b next to a closed parentheses.
I’m really jealous that you are having such great fall weather!! It’s gotten cooler here but not cool enough for sweaters or my boots or hot chocolate! Soon, hopefully soon!
