The first week of October is over. I’m in some form of shock or denial, mostly because it’s still in the mid-80’s here, leaving me thinking that it’s August. If the weather doesn’t change soon, I might never realize that the holidays are quickly approaching. I wonder if I’ll get any of my shopping done before this child arrives!
I started off the week and the month with a reminder that, a) it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and b) birth mothers should be aware of their breast health and updating their placed children (especially if those children are daughters).
After some tips from others about what to discuss and seeing a thread on the forums, I decided to tackle the topic of family members who don’t know about the placement and how to tell them. The latter of the two got some great comments from various readers that share some personal stories with this issue. I encourage you to read them (and ask some more questions!) if you’re dealing with this particular situation in your own family.
Then I turned up the controversy level and talked about abortion and politics and Britney Spears. Or, I thought I turned up the controversy level by talking about abortion and politics but the Spears topic was far more controversial. When did celebrities become more important than candidates for Presidency? Shocked the pants right off me! (To be honest, no pants is a good way to be in hot, hot weather like this!)
I then toned it down a little with the four things about adoption meme and a nice little note for Love Thursday. I’m thinking that a weekly adoption meme, such as that one, might be kind of intriguing. I’ll mull it over this next week!
To end the week, two articles out of Canada made me think outside of the box in their own unique ways. What changes are needed to remedy both of the problems, different yet connected, in both articles?
And, as promised, I gave readers another tradition idea on Friday, this week focusing on pumpkins. Since it is October even though my current apparel and the thermometer would make people think otherwise!
Have a splendid weekend! (If it’s nice and cool where you are, take a picture of yourself at a pumpkin patch wearing a wonderfully warm sweater and drop it in an e-mail to me. I need to know that somewhere, somehow, SOMEONE is enjoying this time!)
