Talkin' on the Phone to BrendaBrenda Romanchik is an awesome woman. An awesome Mother. An awesome birth mother. And an awesome resource to birthmothers. Her website has provided me (and plenty of other birth parents) with words of understanding, clarification and compassion. She’s been there and done that when it comes to Open Adoption. She’s walked the walk, talked the talk and lived the life. Her personal experiences and willingness to share them have been helpful to me in my own journey.

Shortly after I found out that my agency had neglected to tell me that open adoptions weren’t legally binding in my state, Brenda and I talked on the phone about their laundry list of unethical practices. Her willingness to listen to my hurt, anger and frustration when my agency all but slammed the virtual door in my face was so helpful at that period in my life.

Over the years, Brenda has offered advice regarding not only our adoption but on how to parent children after placement. Again, having someone who had been through some of the experiences that I was trying to muck my own way through was an invaluable resource.

I’ve included Brenda in my Thankful Series because I feel that other birthparents can greatly benefit from her knowledge, know-how and general involvement in the adoption world. I am thankful that she has made her services available to the general public so that others may find hope or peace in their own journies. I am thankful that she continually acts as a proactive voice for birth parents everywhere.

I am thankful.
