I proved to myself and the world that I am not a writer for One Tree Hill last night. They didn’t unroll more about the second adoption storyline. Well, they did in a way but not in the way I had thought (or, maybe, hoped). The episode did feature the storyline, in general, in great detail. I should explain!

Brooke, the character who foster-slash-sponsored a baby last season, has been having a rough season. She was attacked, her business was robbed and she eventually signed her business over to her (crazy) Mother. Her friend is a teacher at the school and found out that one of the girls in her class had run away from her foster home. The friend approached Brooke and asked her if she thought she could take her on, citing her own mom-issues from the past as a great reason to make a positive change in a troubled teen’s life.

Apparently her home study from when she tried to previously adopt was still good. Except for the fact that we haven’t seen a single social worker yet with regard to this new fostering pair. At all. I don’t even know if the state knows where this girl is! I’m wondering if they’re going to make that a huge issue later on in the season. I think they would almost have to.

As you can figure, the two are having some trouble adjusting to one another. Brooke is all of 22 and is fostering a headstrong teenager. Thankfully she is equally as headstrong. The girl, Sam, keeps leaving through the window. Brooke keeps setting down rules. In last night’s episode, Sam left with Brooke’s godson, went to Brooke’s place of business and threw a big party. Those in attendance ended up ruining the dress that Brooke was making for her best friend’s wedding. Yes, it was pretty bad. Back at the house, Sam apologized and made for the door. When Brooke told her that she was grounded, Sam looked shocked.

Sam: You’re not kicking me out?

Brooke: I hope that someday you get used that.

You could see the hope in Sam’s eyes. (Which, let me tell you, kudos to this young actress. Playing this part very well.)

So, that’s a lot of action. What was I hoping for? In a previous episode featuring these two characters, they’re sitting in a local diner. Sam had been frequenting the diner and Brooke kept finding her there whenever she went missing from the house. Sam finally nods to the woman behind the counter waiting on customers and admits that the woman is her biological mother. She said something (and I didn’t save the episode) about eventually letting her know. After Sam left, Brooke just stared at the birth mother. I’ll be very interested to see where this goes. I will keep you updated.

And for even more adoption fun, Peyton’s character had more adoption related fun last night. Thankfully not with her birth father. She went to visit her half-brother and they discussed their shared father. (Different birth mothers.) Her brother, Derek, talked about how their birth father wasn’t a real great dad. Derek had asked for a favor awhile back and Mick never got back to him. It made me sad for both of them and for the many adoptees out there who run into similar problems.

You know, I’ll be honest. One Tree Hill is lucky that I’ve been a fan for so long. Otherwise, I don’t know if I could continue watching with so much adoption being thrown at me.

I love the part with Sam and Brooke because that’s what I hope for all of the kids on my caseload – which sadly they don’t find someone that devoted for a long period of time. I hope Sam and Brooke’s relationship continues. Though from previews, I think the state is going to get involved. I could be wrong but that’s the hint I’ve got so far!
