It’s hard for me to ask to spend alone time with the Munchkin while we are visiting. I get anxious. I get sweaty palms. I feel as though I don’t have a right to such a time with her and am always reassured by J & D that I do have a right to such time. And so, on our summer vacation together, I asked if the Munchkin and I could take a walk on the beach together. Once I had permission and the Munchkin said that she did, in fact, want to go for a walk with me, we headed out the door and down to the beach.
This picture means a lot to me. I let her walk a little ways ahead of me so I could get some pictures for me to remember this adventure together. Maybe it doesn’t mean much to some Moms to take a walk on the beach alone with the daughter but it meant the world to me. As I was snapping pictures, she stopped, turned around and said, “Jenna, come on to the beach with me!”
Her eyes are imploring me to get my rear end in gear, if you missed that. I took this picture, one more where she turned her back to me again and then we walked down to the sand. Hand in hand.
The Munchkin wanted me to join her. She wanted me to walk up, beside her, and hold her hand. She wanted to spend time with me if only so she could get a better look at the ocean. She didn’t run away. She waited for me. She waited for me to take a picture. She waited for me to relish in the moment. She waited.
She waited.

My God. She is beautiful.
Ah, something we agree on! The Munchkin is adorable!
Wow! What a fantastic picture! Thanks for sharing the story behind it. True love indeed. Happy Love Thursday.
Love the intensity in her eyes!
The cheeks!
Thanks for sharing the picture (and all that it communicates) with us…us moms who are cherishing our children the best we know how.
That’s quite a determined look on her face!
What’s that you said? — “She came out of the womb in a bossy phase?” Heh. Make that girl a CEO or heck, the president someday. I can just hear her saying, “Come ON, Jenna!!” Love it!!
She is beautiful!
