I am writing this post in a light-hearted manner mainly because, while positive, the rest of the week has been kind of deep and introspective. I thought this would be a great time to delve into one of the lesser known, more-upbeat positive points of blogging as a birth parent. (Especially seeing as how I'm going back to deep and introspective tomorrow!)
But it's true, folks. Freebies exist for bloggers and adoption bloggers are no exception to the rule. While getting freebies shouldn't be your sole reason for blogging, it's just an added perk.
Examples of some things I have been sent with specific regard to my birth parent blogging: non-fiction books on adoption, novels, website for review, music on CD and a children's book. As a book worm, the fact that books make up the majority of that list pleases me to no end. If you're not a book worm, there are still options for you.

How do you score freebies by blogging? Make your voice well-known. Write about books before you ever receive an offer for a free book. Comment on other adoption blogs. Write on the forums and have a link to your blog in your signature. Basically, making yourself "known" on the blogosphere will eventually bring PR people in your direction. Don't actively seek out the PR people; that's kind of tacky. If you write well enough (pay attention to your spelling, grammar and tone!), you will be found.
Again, it's not the only reason for blogging. But, oh, the things I've learned and enjoyed from the books I have received to review are innumerable. I love to learn, don't you? Small perks like these make blogging fun... along with all those other deep and introspective reasons for blogging as a birth parent! I'd still blog without the theoretical promise of freebies (based on the other reasons) but I'm not one to turn down freebies!
