Best Wishes & A Challenge

I meant to offer a challenge to my readers yesterday but my future sister-in-law had a bridal shower and my day disappeared. And so, first and foremost, let me wish a Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers reading this blog. Birth Fathers. Adoptive Fathers. Fathers by Birth. Stepfathers. Foster Fathers. Grandfathers. Fathers-to-be. And, simultaneously, a Happy Day to all of those males that have been a Father figure in some child's life.

We're having a grand day over here! The weather is fabulous. And right now? Both boys are napping and my Husband, well, they're all napping! What a great, great day for all of us! We'll grill some steaks later, let the boys call their grandfathers and just generally kick back in our yard. How are you spending your day?

Of course, I promised a challenge. And so:

Step out of your comfort zone today to make someone else's day a bit brighter. Perhaps you're simply not the type to call your own everyday Father to wish him a happy day. Do it. Perhaps you don't have a fabulous relationship with your child's adoptive parents, whether your child is now a child or an adult. Call or drop an e-card. E-mail your child's birth father and, at the very least, thank him for your child's existence. No, maybe you don't like him one bit but hey, without him, your child would not be alive. (Adoptive parents could read that and do likewise as well but I'm talking to birth parents here.)

I sent my daughter's Dad an e-card because I was so swamped this past week with bridal shower favors and last minute purchases and a teething baby (!) that I didn't get out to purchase a paper card and mail it in time. That feels like a cheap way out but it was important to me to send something and so, an e-card it was!

As for my daughter's biological father, I just sent him a quick "thank you" kind of e-mail. While my focus today is on my Husband, my Dad and my Grandfather, my daughter's biological father is never far from my mind. Without him, there is one amazing little girl that wouldn't exist. For that and, as such, for him, I will always be grateful.

I stepped out of my own comfort zone a bit. Push yourself, too. The rewards for you can be amazing in the end.

Happy Father's Day!
