Birth Mother Will Never Be Reunited with Child

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:03 am , 352 words, 240 views
Categories: Current News, Articles

I hate stories like these because they are negative in nature. Yet I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this one on the blog. In our state, we had two children die last month as a result of being left in a hot car. While it is now September, it is even hotter than it was last month in our area. So, this story just made me cry.

In short, a nine month old died as a result of being left in a hot car by her foster mother.... more

A Birth Mother's Take on the New 90210

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 06:40 am , 518 words, 248 views
Categories: Television

I could have spit nails at the television. I will admit to not catching the whole episode because I kind of forgot that it was on. But I caught over half of the premiere of the "new" 90210. As a young girl, I watched the original Beverly Hills, 90210 every week into my teens (when I ditched the last season or so for Dawson's Creek, of course). I didn't have much hope for the new show. Spin-offs are, in my opinion, never as good as the original. And it seemed that revisiting an idea just eight years later (that's right, it finished in 2000, people) seems to be a... more

Sunday Secrets: Talk of Pregnancies

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 07:25 pm , 452 words, 302 views
Categories: Unplanned Pregnancy

There was no outright adoption speak in today's installment of Sunday Secrets over at Post Secret. But there were two that really caught my eye with regard to the subjects I write about on this blog.

First off, we have this one.

Pregnant women remind me of my failures.

One should note,... more

Week of Confessions: Round Up & Challenge

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 12:00 pm , 393 words, 137 views
Categories: Society and Placement

I've really enjoyed plunging myself into True Mom Confessions' (TMC) archives and finding adoption related posts by people like you and me. Quite honestly, it's been an eye-opening experience for me to look at the way different members of the triad view their own positions. In case you missed anything, here's a brief overview of the week long look at adoption confessions.

First and foremost, adoption is not a joke.... more

Week of Confessions: Birth Moms Confess

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 979 words, 139 views
Categories: Society and Placement

Just like other Moms who have been confession on the site True Mom Confessions (TMC), birth moms have various kinds of confessions. I find myself frequently taken aback by their honesty and not always in a negative way. In fact, sometimes I wish these mothers would find the strength to say these things in public. Alas, this site is mainstream and maybe doing it in this manner is teaching the world something about birth mothers.

Quite simply put, this... more

Week of Confessions: Other Issues

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 684 words, 103 views
Categories: Society and Placement

The confessions on True Mom Confessions aren't always easy reads. From problems within marriages to parenting difficulties to drama with in-laws, the confessions really hit home with a lot of issues. Some of the most difficult reads for me are not just the ones talking about the ins and outs of adoption but the ones that address issues that surround adoption. Those who considered relinquishment, those who considered or had an abortion and those who experienced an unplanned pregnancy. I thought I'd share a few to wrap... more

Week of Confessions: Adoptees & Family Members

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 1185 words, 91 views
Categories: Society and Placement

I think the most interesting confessions on True Mom Confessions (TMC) regarding adoption have come from adoptees, birth family members and those who are somehow related to or touched by an adoptee. I think they speak boldly about adoption in ways that the rest of us can't do because they had the absolute least choice in their existence and subsequent adoption than even the birth mother with the least amount of choice regarding her child's placement. I find it interesting to look at some of these and see how others' choices... more

Week of Confessions: Adoptive Moms Speak Up

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 1214 words, 128 views
Categories: Society and Placement

Now it's time to jump into adoption confessions on True Mom Confessions (TMC) written by people who are touched by adoption. Today I'm going to look at ones that were written by adoptive Moms. The confessions by adoptive Moms have run the gamut on TMC. Just like birth mothers, adoptive Moms come in all shapes and sizes with different experiences, beliefs and opinions.

One of my favorite confessions was this one in which a... more

Week of Confessions: Adoption Isn't a Joke

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 925 words, 116 views
Categories: Society and Placement

I'll start off a look at adoption confessions on True Mom Confessions (TMC) with the lighter (but simultaneously darker) side of the coin. The jokes about "giving your kids up for adoption." I can guarantee you that these confessions did not come from birth parents. But, all the same, they bring adoption speak into a mainstream kind of blog and/or website and, as such, comments like these need discussed.

There are some different kinds of adoption-in-passing jokes that have made their way to TMC. There are some... more

A Week of Confessions!

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:00 am , 365 words, 89 views
Categories: Society and Placement, For Bloggers and Readers

I wrote a post earlier in the month about an adoption themed confession on the site True Mom Confessions. I was so intrigued by that post that I've decided to do a week of posts about adoption related confessions on the site. There are, surprisingly or not, a lot of confessions about adoption on True Mom Confessions.

And why is that?

What's the point of the site anyway? From their about... more
