I proved to myself and the world that I am not a writer for One Tree Hill last night. They didn't unroll more about the second adoption storyline. Well, they did in a way but not in the way I had thought (or, maybe, hoped). The episode did feature the storyline, in general, in great detail. I should explain!
Brooke, the character who foster-slash-sponsored a baby last season, has been having a rough season. She was attacked, her business was robbed and she eventually signed... more

I talked about the adoption storyline in the show One Tree Hill last season. Brooke's character sponsored a baby who needed heart surgery. I feared some big dramatic storyline in which she unethically adopted the baby but they didn't take it that route. Then the season ended and I thought that was the last of the adoption storyline.
Not so! Seems as though the writers of One Tree Hill have realized the surge in adoption talk on the internet and in the news... more
Quick! Someone fly me to the UK because I absolutely, 100% have to see this drama. I'll admit, when I was first reading about "Mine," I went into defensive gear. The adoptive family is portrayed as the be-all and end-all of what society can offer to a child while the expectant mother is, of course, a drug-addicted prostitute. I wanted to scream, "STEREOTYPING!" But the article addressed the issue almost immediately.

A friend of mine alerted me to something said by the star of Brooke Knows Best on VH1, Brooke Hogan. Apparently, for an upcoming episode, Brooke is contemplating going back to school which would involve leaving her music career or, at the very least, putting it on hold. The previews for this episode are hitting on this particular sentence.
Giving up my music is like giving away a newborn baby.
Let me assure you, Brooke Hogan, it's not... more
I could have spit nails at the television. I will admit to not catching the whole episode because I kind of forgot that it was on. But I caught over half of the premiere of the "new" 90210. As a young girl, I watched the original Beverly Hills, 90210 every week into my teens (when I ditched the last season or so for Dawson's Creek, of course). I didn't have much hope for the new show. Spin-offs are, in my opinion, never as good as the original. And it seemed that revisiting an idea just eight years later (that's right, it finished in 2000, people) seems to be a... more
I couldn't sleep on Saturday night. I was nervous for the following morning as I was singing a song in church. (It didn't go well. No, I don't want to talk about it.) As insomnia usually goes, I was flipping through the channels. Well, folks, Steel Magnolias was on and, let me tell you, it's an old favorite of mine. However, I hadn't watched in years and years. Not since my mid-college days when we would sit and sob over the movie. I hadn't watched it since becoming pregnant with the Munchkin, relinquishing her for adoption, getting married and having two children... more

I was sent The English American by Alison Larkin for review, well, many months ago. It has taken me until now to pick it up. Once picked up, I couldn't put it down. Not only is the writing absolutely phenomenal but the subject was so close to my heart that I simply needed to know how it ended.
Not a spoiler because it doesn't end in the way you expect but:... more
I rarely read something about adoption in entertainment and want to watch it for myself. You've seen me rant about Lifetime movies before and, quite honestly, even mainstream adoption movies are filled with Lifetime-esque kitsch. That's why I am sitting here, feeling surprised.
I just read an article about a play featuring an adoption storyline. And I want to see it!
Okay, so it is definitely not a happy trip down adoption... more
I've written twice about the hosting-slash-fostering situation on the Monday evening drama One Tree Hill. Well, last week was the season finale and, in true television fashion, things had to be wrapped up before they left us hanging in other regards over the summer months. Of course, one of those things that was wrapped up in a neat little package and tied with an unrealistic bow... more
Every now and then I forget that I'm an intelligent woman who can read books. By forgetting this, I get sucked into the horrible world of made-for-television movies on Lifetime. Oh, what a waste of a Sunday afternoon! Thanks to a tip from a friend, I wasted two hours watching a movie about stolen embryos. But that's not the worst of it. I continued watching the next movie. And, oh, was it special.
The Last Trimester, as you may have guessed since I'm writing on this blog, was about adoption.... more
