A Week of Confessions!

I wrote a post earlier in the month about an adoption themed confession on the site True Mom Confessions. I was so intrigued by that post that I've decided to do a week of posts about adoption related confessions on the site. There are, surprisingly or not, a lot of confessions about adoption on True Mom Confessions.

And why is that?

What's the point of the site anyway? From their about... more

Post Secret Made Me Nod My Head

This week's Post Secret made me nod my head a few times. While no post came out and specifically talked about adoption, one really struck a chord with me in relation to all of my children. It read:

You made me someone I'm proud to be, stretchmarks and all.

This resonates with me on so many levels. When I was pregnant with the Munchkin, my first, I was blessed to not have stretchmarks. For thirty-seven weeks. And then they came, fast and furious. And I delivered at thirty-eight weeks, three days! I was bummed at first. I thought I was going... more

True Mom Confessions: A Birth Mother Feels Badly

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 06:00 pm , 321 words, 125 views

I read True Mom Confessions on a semi-regular basis. I'll spend days visiting the site repeatedly and then won't visit it for a few weeks. It can be overwhelming to read the emotion behind some of these confessions which is why I do it in small spurts. However, a confession today really caught my eye.

I look at my stepdaughter and think of the daughter i gave up for adoption, and feel like [expletive].

Wow.... more

Personal Attacks

A birth mother friend of mine recently forwarded me an e-mail that she had received. In this e-mail, an adoptive mother, pregnancy counselor and adoption agency owner cussed at my friend, called her names and basically pulled out every ignorant trick in the book to get under my friend's skin. Thankfully my friend is an amazingly strong woman and the two of us had a good laugh at the other woman's expense. Sadly, this is not the first time I've seen people randomly reach out and attack birth parents on the internet.

I recently pulled down my personal adoption... more

And So It Starts: The Plea for the Pact Babies

A fellow adoption news follower sent me a link to this "article." Of course, it's not an article. Instead it's a "Letter to the Editor" from a waiting adoptive mother to the newspaper in the city which the Pregnancy Pact teens all live. And by "Letter to the Editor," I mean "Letter to the Teens Themselves." Why this newspaper decided to print such an obvious and blatant "Give Me Your Baby" note is beyond me. It's... more

Offensive Tip

Take a moment to read this article. Done? No? You need me to paraphrase for you? Okay. Basically, an expectant mother was working at a restaurant. One of her tables leaves and, along with their tip, they leave a card that reads, and I quote:

We wish to adopt a baby. We are a caring, happily married, financially secure and loving couple. We want to share our joy and love with a child.

There are many things wrong with this... more

Adoption Secrets

Categories: Society and Placement

Are you a fan of Post Secret? I am. Every Sunday, my Husband and I load the webpage and read through the secrets sent in by people on postcards. We own all four books, each of which was read through in a day's time. We find them interesting, sad, funny, alarming and every other reactionary measure you can have to someone else's secret. Some of them strike chords with us in different ways.

And, inevitably, there's always a postcard related to birth, abortion, pregnancy and/or adoption. This, of course, drives me... more

Simplistic Views and Awful Word Choices

My stomach just turned and it's not because I'm on cup five of coffee before any real food consumption. (Though the latter is true.) While reading through the adoption alerts that have piled into my inbox over my extended weekend, I came across this little gem of an opinion letter out of a Chicago newspaper. Beware before reading that the opinions presented are not that of this blogger and some of the language is rather infuriating.

The letter asks adoptees seeking access to their birth records... more

Without Pregnancy...

Oh, adoption drama! Ring the alarm! And it's not even on an adoption blog or site. The fisticuffs are happening over at Celebrity Baby Blog, of all places. And the nasty words flying around are about... a shirt. I actually covered the shirt (and its offensive nature) last October (so I feel these people are behind on the game or maybe I'm just ahead of the game!). This time, the site... more

Punishment? Another Politician Doesn't Get It

Posted by : Jenna Hatfield in Birth-First Parent Blog at 05:37 am , 521 words, 607 views

This post is not about my political standing nor will I share my political beliefs on this blog. This post, instead, is about the way that politicians insult people like me, in various forms, over and over and the country stands by and allows it to happen.

Perhaps you missed a recent quote by Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Let me share it with you.

Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about... more
