While grocery shopping this morning, I came across the June 4th edition of OK! Magazine. Sheryl Crow is smiling beautifully on the front cover, holding her newly adopted son who either looks annoyed with the camera or like he's about to poop. That's how it goes with three week old babies; their expressions are hard to read simply because they're mostly similar. I bought the magazine, wondering if there would be more information about the adoption itself. I read it over lunch. I processed a bit. And here I am.
As everyone knows, this was a domestic newborn adoption. Sheryl brought her son home at one day of age (and he was born four days after... more

Remember the incident in Utah a few months ago which involved young three pregnant teens? The young women tied up the director of the “home,” whacked her with a pan and then fled. There was some speculation that the young women wanted to keep their babies, and fled in part for that reason.
This article catches us up on the latest developments in the panwhacking case. "Pan-whacking,"... more
Apparently the woman who has stepped forward as the birth mother of Angelina's newly adopted son is not magically going away. US Weekly is running an interview from the British Newspaper, News of the World. Apparently it's a tabloid of some sort as well so the reliability can be called into question.
Her interview answers, legitimate or not, bring up some deep-rooted birth parent emotions and beliefs.
"I am not his mother anymore because I abandoned... more
I don't believe the story. I believe a woman is trying to step into the spotlight for either her fifteen minutes of fame or for money. However, it's all over the news and gossip blogs this morning. Happy Monday, right?
A heroin addict in Vietnam is claiming to be the biological mother of the three-year-old boy who has just been welcomed into Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's family.
Pham Thu Dung allegedly abandoned her baby when he was just... more
The stated purpose of this project:
The purpose of the CAP is to study both nature and nurture, to determine the genetic predispositions as well as the environmental influences that contribute to traits such as intelligence, personality, and behavior.
The Colorado Adoption Project ("CAP") is beginning its 31st year, and is therefore one of the longest running such studies in the United States.
When I first began to study adoption during reunion, I... more
An interesting, yet somewhat sad story from Law.com revolving around an adoptee's search for her biological mother, the Jell-O fortune and laws that, basically, suck. However, triumphant in the end, the daughter, Elizabeth McNabb, was just awarded money after taking the case to court.
Reading the article, we find that after the mother died, her will stated that her money be left to her living child[ren]. Elizabeth met... more

Part 1. Other adoptive moms include Diane Keaton, Rosie McDonnell and Sharon Stone. Sharon Stone....well, you know I imagine about her foray into bad mom history. I like Diane Keaton, but I have not heard any of her views or quotes about adoption. Rosie, on the other hand, has made some remarks about adoption that indicate her lack of enlightment.
Finally, I came up with a celebrity mom that I really like - Nicole Kidman. Again, I have not heard her speak much about... more
Most of the celebrity adoptions seem to rub me the wrong way, and I have given some thought as to why that is the case. I started thinking about many of the celebrity adoptive moms and tried to come up with some that I actually like. I honestly wanted to prove to myself that it isn't just that they are adopting that bothers me, and it is not. It is the way that they are approaching adoption.
First, I realized that many of the celebrity adoptive moms that I seem to find fault with the most are those that I did not care for to begin with, adoption... more
Although I won't hold my breath, this new development in the Angelina adoption saga is one I approve of heartily. Admittedly, I have taken a few jabs at Angelina - more than a few and am still not ready to join her fan club. (You know that she must have a few of those, at least.)
It isn't just her handling of her adoptions that does not endear her to me. All her bizzarre behavior over the years has just been too much for me. I don't read movie magazines or tabloids, but I have seen... more
My friend Sandra cautioned us bloggers recently against wasting our time dissecting the latest Brangelina adoption here and here. She mentioned that despite all we read that we really do not know Angelina and therefore should just leave her alone (or words to that effect). In so many words she told us to mind our own business. Sorry, this... more
